Thank you for taking the time to read our Terms of Use. This is your unbroken contract with us and in the event of a problem or issue we will always consult what is on this page. However as always, we reserve the right to take action either way depending on the severity of the infraction. Alien Soup is a general forum community utilizing vBulletin software, as well as using various hacks and template modifications from vbulletin.org. By using Alien Soup you agree to adhere to the terms below. If you do not it may result in your account suspension and your torso catapulted into deep space.

Arcade: To play games in the arcade, we require a minimum of 100 legitimate posts (not just smilies, or short replies) to play. If you remain inactive in the other areas of the Alien Soup website (neglect posting in the forums, or in the gallery, etc.), you may lose arcade privileges and your account is subject to future suspension or termination. Alien Soup's main focus is it's community. We feel the arcade isn't as fun without knowing the personalities of your fellow members, getting to taunt each other, etc. Playing games also requires expensive bandwidth and resources, and we fail to see the reason to support those who do not participate with us and benefit the community in any way with content. If you've come only looking for flash games, there are thousands of websites with thousands upon thousands of games available free without such restrictions.

Shout Box: Any member that abuses the Shoutbox (by Spamming, Flaming, Profanity, etc.) will have the Shoutbox privileges removed from them and their account subject to future suspension or termination.

Accounts: All users are permitted only one account. Never share your password with ANYONE. If you connect to Alien Soup in a public place, always remember to click LOGOUT (located in the navbar beneath the header at the top of every forum page) or the next time someone visits this site they can post as you since cookies are set and you will already be logged in!

Spam: Spamming is anything considered unsolicited e-mail, often of a commercial nature, sent indiscriminately to multiple mailing lists, individuals, or newsgroups; junk e-mail. Since we are a community, email may also refer to the use and abuse of our private message system. Spamming may include advertising or 'plugging' in your site when unnecessary. Failure to follow this rule is at Alien Soup's owners discretion and steps taken against this may result with or without prior notice.

Verbal Abuse (Flaming): We don't tolerate flaming or senseless user battles. If you have an issue with someone, take it to PM. However if they no longer wish to speak to you, please cease doing so. DO NOT continue flame wars in a thread. And, if at all possible, try not to do it all together. This is a community. You will act with respect towards your fellow members.

Profanity: Because many people consider certain words as offensive, profanity in a stronger degree is not permitted. Although we have our censor on to filter out select words, there's always words and ways to get through the system, so we ask to not use profanity while being an active member of our community.

Sexually Explicit Material: This site does not tolerate sexually explicit material, including pictures or text of a pornographic nature. We do not mind innuendo, and more general humorous material but nothing beyond that. Example? "Woah, that chick is so hot, I'd really like to get a piece of that action!" Vs. "Woah that chick is so hot, I'd really like to **** her in her *** and **** her ****! ;) This website is PG-13, and we'd like to keep it that way.

Copyrighted Material: Never take credit for someone else's work or leave the chance that something you've posted could have been read as being property of yours. We do not tolerate copyright infringement at all and if you're caught it will result in an immediate and permanent ban. We also reserve the right to further action as appropriate.

Off-Topic Posting: More or less this is just a pet peeve that can become tedious when abused. Try to stay on topic within posts. There's nothing worse than opening a thread with an interesting title and reading a plethora of posts that have nothing to do with it.

Necro-Posting: A definition of this is when you post in a thread that is extremely old and has had no responses in ages. We generally frown upon this. However, if you must dig up an old topic please make sure your response adds to the conversation or it is subject to removal.

Questionable Material: This is anything and everything that has not been covered here. Think twice before posting something that you are not sure belongs here. Such items as pornography and "warez" are good examples. They are NOT permitted.

Idle Accounts/Membership: If you remain inactive for a prolonged amount of time after registration, say, your post count remained at 0 from the date of registration for months at a time, your account is subject to suspension and/or termination. This is due to a small minority of members who sign up only to view the rest of the graphical enhancements and features that only members can see, or those who just never returned for whatever reason.

Links: Links to personal web sites (whether it is your site or someone else's), other forum sites, etc. cannot generally be posted within your messages anywhere on these forums.
Note: Since this rule was initially put into effect however, we've decided to generally be more lenient on this for long standing contributing members who have proven they have no ill intent. For example, you've been around a while and feel like posting a link to your new photography hobby website, or pictures of your kids. You can now do so, as long as you've been around a bit and have participated quite a bit in our community...
An example of other tolerated links would be when posting an excerpt from a news story or some other article OR posting some cool game or quiz in the Fun N' Notables forum. All other personal links (especially for people who haven't been active very much) or "check this site out" type messages can only be placed in the signature line, your custom user text messages, and via the "Homepage" link in member profiles. Creating SPAM topics/posts saying "Hey, check this site out" will be promptly removed, and you may lose your access privileges (not to mention the negative impact it would have on the board advertised).

Avatars: Images of an explicit sexual nature are not permitted (including, but not limited to, exposed nipples and genitalia). Images that are abusive, defamatory, or harassing are not permitted. Images that contain rapidly flashing or otherwise annoying animations may be removed or edited at the discretion of our staff.

Signatures: Content that is abusive, defamatory, or harassing is not permitted. Content of an explicit sexual nature is not permitted (including, but not limited to, exposed nipples and genitals). Images are not permitted, other than smilies. Excessive use of bbcode tags in signatures is not permitted. Advertising a business is not permitted unless first approved in writing by an Administrator. Blurbs or links recruiting for other Folding@Home teams via signatures is prohibited. Our staff may remove any signature content considered inappropriate or that impairs the performance or usability of the forum.
