Gee, it's about time.... Today, I signed up for drivers ed!!! :D My geometry teacher actually teaches it, AND he owns the driving school (hopefully he doesn't teach driving like he teaches math. The horror if he did!)
I'll be starting on the 31st, and I can't wait!! I've been wanting to do this since last year, and now I'm finally old enough (I'm 15 years and 10 months) to take the course. About a month or so ago, I was actually having dreams about driving! Now, when I learn, that will become true. I know that when I can finally drive, I will LOVE it. Around here, I think that you get your license at 16.5. I can't wait to take drivers ed!!!!!!! :D

oh my, no driver is safe

in RI i could have gone to driver's ed after i was 15 and ten months, then had a permit for 6 months, then a "provisional license" for a year, so i could get my license when i was about 17 1/2 theoretically. something like that.

i put it off because i was busy at school, in sports, with friends, etc etc, so i didn't get to driver's ed till i was about 17. then i had my permit for 6 months, and got my provisional license for only 6 months because i turned 18 and got the real deal.

are you gonna have a car at your disposal once you're street-legal? i still don't have a car

When I get my permit, my mom might add me on to her insurance as an occasional user if she has the money to do so.
When I am street lagal, mom might give me the jeep, and buy a car for herself, or I can just look for a nice, good-quality used car for the price of the car itself, and so insurance won't be sky-high

Hear Ye Hear Ye - PAN will be on the Road Soon, park you cars and be safe!!!!

Once your street legal come out west and I'll teach to ride a motorcycle so you can truly be dangerous :D

i forget how insurance works, i think when you're on a permit you fall under the insurance of whoever's with you in the car

the way i worked it out with my parents i pay the difference in their insurance caused by me as a driver, once i had my license.

f.y.i., just buying a car will make your insurance skyrocket. for the amount of driving i do, borrowing a parent's car occasionally was plenty for me. so unless you really need a car, i wouldn't advise running out and buying one - there's all kinds of hidden costs.

Pan if you are going to drive a jeep, really the wrangler is the way to go, convertible, I've got a 4 inch lift kit, winch, etc etc, hell I even got flames on it. GREAT for off roading - I'll give you lessons there. Many great trails in CO. Now don't listen to Lobo, the best color is white (with flames).

monsieurjohn

you could compromise and get RED flames

koehiir

hmm red flames, good idea. What do you think PAN - it is your vehicle we are designing anyway.

By the way MJ come out west for a motorcycle ride when you get the chance. We got 2 great groups to ride with in my neck of the woods, group 1 - safe and entertaining, group 2 - toe dragging speed freaks - choose thy poison.

The safe group is much for fun over the day or so, the nuts group gets old after about an hour. My riding is about 9:1.

My mom's got a Geo Tracker jeep. It has 4-wheel drive, and drives well in snow and other muck

Ugh! A Geo Tracker is not a Jeep. It's barely even a real car.

Now a Wrangler... THAT'S a Jeep! ;)

Huh ... On my previous planet JEEP means any off-road car ... traditionally ... from WWII ... when first willises and jeeps invade it ...
It is sounds good, JEEP Pathfinder, or JEEP Landrover ...

monsieurjohn

i dunno if i'd take a geo offroad though

jeep is an entire make of car, of course, but i would consider a few things jeeps besides just the strict "jeep". however, as i said, it would have to be able to take a significant beating, which i wouldn't subject a geo to.

And for those trivia buffs, the brand name 'Jeep' comes from the fact that the old vehicles they made for the army were referred to as "General Purpose" vehicles, which was shortened to GP, which was phonetically "Jeep".

Eventually, the vehicles that company made were all labeled Jeep, and that's where the brand name for the company came from.
