My boss, a die-hard Yankees fan, decided that his paramount priority in running the business last week was to make fun of the Red Sox fan at our primary client.
The Red Sox fan has had his computer wallpaper set to various pictures of Red Sox players. My boss' idea was to change his wallpaper to a Yankees wallpaper, and then lock his account out of the ability to change wallpaper.
I explained in detail how this would be done, as we've done it for legitimate reasons at several clients.
My boss, however, decided to ignore my recommendations and implement the appropriate (as he saw it) group policy. Problem is that my boss is a Novell guy and doesn't know how to implement group policies in a Windows environment.
End result: He effectively locked out everyone in the domain from accessing their Control Panel, system clock, and desktop settings, including myself and the other system administrators.
He also failed in his attempt to lock the Red Sox fan out of changing his wallpaper, which was a nice picture of Nomar this morning.
I'm now fighting the occasional ineptitude of our users, along with the full-time incompetance of other system adminstrators.
