These are an interesting series of DVDs...they've got 5 to 10 short independent films on them. I think there's 8 to 10 of these out right now.

I just got Short 5 the other day from Half.com...it was really neat, the highlight was a semi-autobiographical film by and about Vin Diesel (the heavy gunner from Saving Private Ryan, one of the stockbrokers from Boiler Room, and the voice of The Iron Giant), although it also had some cool animated shorts and one hauntingly disturbing true-story film at the end.

It was loaded with extras - alternate audio tracks, alternate video tracks - the only thing I *didn't* like is that if you watch it from start to finish, it has (shudder) commercials. But it was very easy to blip past those, or to get up & grab a soda from the fridge during those times.

Does anyone else own any of the Short series? I've got a few GCs burning a hole in my virtual wallet, and I'd like others' opinions as to which one I should snag next.

I enjoy short films.

Have you been watching "Exposure" on the sci-fi channel? They have some WILD stuff, love that show.

I'll see about checking out those DVD's you mentioned, sounds like I'd like them.

I just have to bump this up. I own 3 of these, and have a 4th on the way as we speak. There's just SO much to these DVDs - camera angles, audio tracks - and the films themselves are great, better than most of the feature films out right now. If you don't have one, get one - they're relatively inexpensive.

Ones to watch for (well, ones I've seen):

Vol. 4 - Lily and Jim by Don Hertzfeldt
Vol. 5 - Multi-Facial starring Vin Diesel; The Job, a disturbing true-life account of racism in Texas
Vol. 6 - Billy's Balloon by Don Hertzfeldt; Franky Goes to Hollywood starring the cast of Armageddon; and a disturbing short with voice-over by Charles Manson
Vol. 10 - coming soon, containing George Lucas' film-school short, THX-1138
