I'm sitting up front because the receptionist just HAD to leave super early today (she's about as full of it as they come - always a reason to head out early) and I'm trying to transcribe a REALLY long tape. People see and hear me doing this yet they insist on standing right next to/behind me and talking and talking and talking.

Go somewhere else and talk! Your desk is not that far away. Just shut up and let me work! I don't want to be here all night trying to get this done.

(and I'm grouchy as hell tonight because I'm tired)

Is there anyway you could complain about your secretary leaving like that? That doesn't sound right if she's always doing that! It sounds to me like she's not taking her job seriously.

As far as the other people hanging around your desk, I assume you've told them you need the quiet. I KNOW I KNOW!!....keep a fish in your draw so the stench will keep them away from your desk!! Tell them you can't concentrate when they are talking so loud nearby and you'd appreciate it if they went someplace more private. liltaz, I know how you feel. In my last job, I started out as the receptionist, and once I got promoted, she kept calling me up to cover for her. On Fridays, she left early to pick up her daughter. One day, she had to take someone to the hospital. I'd have to go up and cover her lunches. One time, she even dumped some of her work on my desk. None of that was *my* responsibility. It was supposed to fall to the people in the office next to her, but..yay! I got to do it.

These people have been told but they don't care.

Everyone knows she leaves early but these people never fire anyone. The guy I'm supposed to work with is the laziest damned fool I have ever seen -- passes his work off on everyone around him but he's been here five years.

It's a small company and people get to be friends and they won't fire their friends.

As bad as it sounds, I usually like my job. *shrugs* and the money kind of makes it worth it...decent enough salary, huge bonuses, and very large raises each year. I need this for college...(and bill paying)
