OMG! I woke up yesterday morning and got this phone call from this guy asking if I was interested in looking for a job in massage therapy. Well yes I am! I just graduated from school and I do need a job. So he said he found my name on a member list for graduates looking to be sponsored. He told me he has a licensed massage therapist hired already and is about to open a massage office in my county. The job would be 11am to 8pm Monday through Friday and I'd be paid 35 dollars a client. Those hours aren't so good but it sounded like a great deal. He said he wanted to see me that same day but is very busy. So we agreed to meet at a dinner somewhere at night. Kinda odd, I know, but he wanted to be casual just so we could ask each other questions and such. He didn't even want me to show him some techniques. Already this interview was going a bit too easy to be true. I met him later on at the dinner. He seemed like a well dressed, young man who is just starting his first company...he was.
We sat down. He ordered a cheesecake and a coke and I got water. Coke gives me the burps and I didn't want to burp on an interview. He told me again he was starting his own massage business and went over the hours and discussed the massage therapist he hired. First of all he didn't hire her. He's not paying her till he can afford her. She's doing him a favor by watching an unlicensed massage therapist work till he can afford her full pay ($70 per client). Anyway, I asked him what was the name of his company and he didn't have one DOH! He also mentioned he wasn't sure what the place looked like that he found to open the business in...then mentioned he hasn't even bought the building yet and is still looking. He wanted to open this in about 2-3 weeks. How on earth will that happen? Then he said I'll be doing the massages and the licensed massage therapist he hired will be just sitting around for a few hours while I work. She'll do the tougher massages like chronic diseases and what not. Then he mentioned she is still hired full-time in the city and is willing to drive out to where the business is just to be there or do an occasional massage. She'd even drop the client she's working on in the city to work here. Ummm, that doesn’t sound right. He also said I'd have to massage when she's not there. It's against the law for an unlicensed massage therapist to massage without a licensed massage therapist on the premises. He has no problem with that. I DO! And get this. He wants to only advertise in the Korean newspaper. He only talked about having Korean men as his clients, but not necessarily only Korean men would be getting massaged there. I asked him if it would be helpful to him that I want to get certified in pregnancy massage. He said he doesn't suspect a lot of women to be massaged there. He wanted to aim at very rich men, mainly Korean business men. He said they may expect more from me and wanted to make sure I know not to do any favors. That I was pleased with as far as not expecting me to do favors for them but wow, that's narrowing down possible clients. These men would be used to getting massaged from unlicensed masseuses and masseuses from casinos. HELLO!!! Those masseuses DO favors for extra. He's also only hiring women. I'd say that's pretty shady! He showed me some competing massage places and I recognized one my teacher used to own. He said he knew her when he was her patient and didn't want me to tell her he is opening up the place. Umm, why not? He gave me some reason that it's close to her office and she'd be pissed. I suspect something else but don't know what it was.
:bull: All I can say is, there are way too many holes in his plan and too many unanswered questions for me to even consider this job! He offered it and I turned it down. I think I'll just do the searching on my own next time :)
