Okay, here is the current list of Avatars being considered for removal from our list.

Please respond here if you have it, and are desperate to keep it.

If you have one of these and don't mind changing it, you may via the 'Profile' link in the table of contents to the left. If you are the only one who has the Avatar to date, you may request it to be available to ONLY you as well...

Okay, since the only stupid questions are the ones that never get asked, here goes. How in the world do you use an avatar that isn't on the avatar list (ie. CaptKirk's). Personally, I would love a butterfly..they're my fave http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif (Or, an angel would work.) I can tell you what I did to make it quick for Alien to put up my custom Avatar:

1. They are 32 pixels by 32 pixels
2. I set mine to 256 color (loads quicker) but it appears the board can handle more if needed.
3. Transparent background- not sure if required, but I think this makes it easier on Alien.
4. GIF format (easier for Alien??)

I used Paint Shop Pro and it was a snap. I copied the Trek swoosh and glasses face from here, then edited the swoosh and shrunk it (PSP does this easily with the "resize command". I opened up the face, enlarged the canvas (to make room for the swoosh), pasted it in, cropped as close as possible keeping the image SQUARE, then resized to 32x32, did a bit of cleanup, then reduced the color depth, set a tranparent background, saved as a GIF (supports tranparent background), then emailed to Alien.

Didn't take long at all. If you are interested, I think you can download a shareware version of PSP at: www.jasc.com (http://www.jasc.com)

Not that I need extra work, but I can quickly tune up a graphic for a few friends here who email their rough draft version to kirkb@audiohighway.net. If I get overwhelmed, I'll call "uncle". http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Designing them/editing one together is one method, however many users here just have a custom one that I have found for them, or they had found around the web...

I can probably find something, it takes 2 minutes to give you a custom one, the hard part is finding a NICE one. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif

mthrlangl- Don't get too excited- the full size version I worked up is nice, but at 32 x 32 Avatar size, it loses a lot of detail. I was not overly happy with the result but it might be passable. I'm going to need to keep looking for just the right avatar for an "elvin silver angel"...

I'm happy to do it- I was moved by your user name and I am moved by your current situation (I've been lurking on other threads and just wanted to do SOMETHING for you...)

That idea looks pretty interesting. I just emailed to Alien who can post it in a message before replacing the existing avatar.
