Hey, real life stinks enough, here on the net I need some peace! Anyone from the tri-state area? (NY, NJ, CT). I'm not there now, but I could be a REGULAR on Seinfeld, thats how crazy I am. Well antone from "T-S", and at LEAST 35 or so has to remember the Jersey Shore...specifically, Asbury Park. Wow, when I was a kid, every easter the boardwalk by convention hall was like a fashion show! Now, you can just get mugged. And when I was a little older, lets see, I saw Blue Oyster Cult at the Paramount, Al DiMeola at the Capitol, missed Black Sabbath, but I wasn't really an Ozzy fan until much later....and the STONE PONY! I heard its a 'disco' now, or some pop dance place...makes me want to cry....but I digress! Those were the days....

You can still go to the shore, but the good places to go have moved south, to around Seaside.

Having grown up spending summers at the Jersey Shore, I'd have to say the best place is Wildwood. My family has had a house in Seaside for over 10 years now and it just can't hold a candle to Wildwood.

And having gone to Wildwood, I can honestly say that it sucks! http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/tongue.gif
It's desolate, and unless you want to go to the boardwalk, there's really not much to do.
Sure, it's less crowded than Seaside in the summer, but that's because there's actually things to do in Seaside other than lay on the beach.
Plus, Seaside is WAY closer to most people than Wildwood is.

I became dissolusioned w/ the Atlantic ocean long ago....guess thats why I chose the Gulf coast (Tampa). However, I've SEEN the Gulf of Mexico about 4 times since "93......takes about an hour to get there! I grew up in Eatontown (Monmouth Park Horse Racing? Anyone?), so it was a 5-minute drive. But I see Tampa Bay every day (its not much....like a big lake).

You think everything about NJ sucks!
There isn't one thing you like about NJ. Going to Wildwood once, and during the off-season I might add, is not the same as being there during the heart of the summer. In my experience, I've found it to be much more crowded then Seaside. The beaches are bigger, nicer, and cleaner. The hotels are a lot nicer as well, with majority of them being on the beach. Also, there is nightlife other than the "boardwalk."

And would I be wrong?!?
I've been here almost 10 months, and I'm still searching for some redeeming qualities.
Am I supposed to enjoy the lovely odors of Elizabeth? Or maybe the wonderful railway system to whisk you in and out of NYC? Perhaps you're referring to the overly skilled drivers? Or possibly the wonderful roadway design that allows you to make the most logical turn possible???

Wildwood is pretty decent during the summer. I've been there a few times, since it's a stone's throw from Stone Harbor (pun intended, boo hiss) where my gf's family has a summer home. I haven't spent alot of time in Seaside, so hard for me to compare anything with that. I enjoy my time in Wildwood when I am there, I absolutely love the boardwalk and mini-golf courses in that area.
This year I gotta take a ride on those giant 4x4 trucks they got out on the water. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/tongue.gif

You're not missing much.
I think Robert Moses has much nicer beaches than anything the Jersey Shore has to offer.
I also don't think Jones Beach is that great. Way too crowded. In my younger days, I used to hang out at Field 4 daily.
