Okay, forgive me. I need a place to b*tch. This is my last week at my current job, and the fact that I could fire-bomb the place and feel absolutely no remorse was just cemented. Our receptionist just trotted into my office and gave me a huge stack of her work to do. No one sorted the mail while she was on vacation, so she gave it to me to do. Now, I *used* to be the receptionist, and when I missed work due to a car accident, no one sorted the mail for me, and I didn't get help when I came back. I have no problem with helping out, don't get me wrong, but I'm technically her superior. In my opinion, that at least entitles me to being *asked* if I will help her rather than told. This is just the icing on the cake. I do the work of at least 3 people here. Whenever our customer service person is gone, I do her work and mine. I do the same for our shipping person, and she's gone every Friday. If the factory secretary needs help making mailing labels and product tags, I have to go help her. If our incompetent vice president (the boss's son-in-law) is too lazy to do his own simple tasks, I get to do his work. Our bosses kids have the freaking run of the company, and to the best of my knowledge, all but one of them (there are 2 daughters and their husbands) do nothing but f*ck up the work the rest of us try to do. I am so pissed that I can't see strait. Ugh. I hate this place. I am half tempted to send a copy of this rant to everyone that works here, but that kind of action would result in me not getting my last two paychecks. I am *so* glad that I'm leaving this hell hole. Right now, the door to my office is shut, my phone is on do not disturb, and I'm blasting NIN. ::sigh:: If you've actually made it to the end of this, thanks for your patience. I feel a bit better now. Oh, and to the receptionist's credit, she did come in here and take some of her work back from me.

I would march all that crap she piled on your desk and put it right back on hers. Tell her that is now her job and you got no help when it was yours so you are extending the same courtesy to her.

Glad you're getting out of there.

I did the work, I just continued to b*tch about it. Like I said, I would have done something about it, but I'm afraid that any action I decided to take would constitute in me getting thrown out on my ass, and I rather need my last two checks http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/indiff.gif

I gotcha and I understand. It sucks. At least you only have 3 days left. WOOHOO!!

Do you already have something new lined up?

mthrlangl

Yeah, I have something else lined up. I'm going to be the receptionist for an industrial real estate firm in downtown Atlanta.

To continue my rant:
The incompitent VP that I had mentioned earlier just came into my office again. He said that I'm not allowed to take long lunches - he knows that I don't drive (I share a car with my boyfriend), so it's not my fault, but I was gone for an hour and a half yesterday. Of course, it was also my good-bye lunch from one of my friends at work. He also said that my job goes to *5*, not 4:30 (which is when my ride left), and if I can't handle that, even though there's only 2 or 3 days left here for me, I'll be out the door on my ass. And I almost forgot to mention - his wife (our accounts payable person) told me that I had 3 days of paid vacation. I asked her if I'd still be getting paid for the 1st of July, which I had requested off, and she looke at me, and was like, "No. Your last day is the 30th." I explained to her that I'd requested the 1st off and she gave me paid vacation, etc. She was like, "Well, you haven't actually *got* any vacation. You haven't been here for 6 months yet." Strangely enough, I got a paid day off last month. And one of our boss's "rules" is that we have to keep our doors open. Oddly, this does not apply to the man who has the office next to mine. His door is always shut, and we've caught him sleeping in there. I hate this company >http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/indiff.gif

Now, I must get to work. Yay.

If I could say screw it to the last two checks, belive me, I would. Our bank account is just a wee bit lower than I'd like, though. We have bills and all that good stuff.

And, no, this is not an Asian company, but why the hell would you ask such a question? What if *I* was Asian and you just really offended me? I'm not Asian, but I *am* offended by that question http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/indiff.gif

A) I'm asian (Chinese)
B) I've worked for 4 asian companies and they all operate the same as yours.. they all have a screwed up heirarchy(sp?) it's like whoever kisses the boss's ass the most has the more power in the company.. rank doesn't matter...

C) If i asked an asian that question.. they wouldn't be offended.... err.. some might be offended but understood where i was coming from.. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/tongue.gif

Heh..I'm sorry. It's just, like, I can't see you, so for all I know, you're some back-bayou coon-ass cajun (I can say that becuase I'm from Louisiana - they call us coon-asses http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif who hates Asian people.

And the hierocary is screwed, because the boss's kids have the run of the company, and when they're in the office, they're all (except one) running around pawning off their work or messing up everybody else's stuff.

[off topic] I can say I've worked for an Asian company and my boyfriend is Korean and works for his family and NONE of their businesses are run that way.[/off topic]

I see...oh well...at least the torture is just about over. As you leave make sure you tell them what you think. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/supergrin.gif

I'm actually considering sending one after I get my last check in the mail. You know, an email to everyone in the company and a hand written/typed letter to the boss maybe?

I just told them that I'm leaving at 3 o'clock tomorrow so I can get a ride to the Marta station (so I can get to the airport) rom one of my co-workers. I'm waiting for one of them to come in here and tell me not to bother coming in period. Bah.

Actually, he read my note, and, thus far at least, I'm still technically employed. I asked for my last two paychecks today though, and I'm getting them http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/supergrin.gif

YAY hehe Good...I have to wonder how their business stays in business when it seems like they don't do squat to help it.

They keep it open by constantly hiring new people. I've been working here since February of this year, and since I've started, I can think of at least..um...:: counting on fingers ::..seven people that have either quit or been fired. Some of the ones that quit had been here for a while, but at least 2 or 3 of them were just fed up with this place. It's ridiculous. I have a letter all written out to email my boss and a few select others before I leave torrow.

My good-bye letter:

Stew, I just wanted you to know the reasoning behind my descision to resign.

Most of us do not get paid well enough for the work we are expected to do. Personally, I did the job of at least three people. I understand that businesses function through people multi-tasking, but the situation is taken to the extreme at LABS. I did *all* of the silk order entry, the majority of the receiving (both the actual receiving and the order entry), billing whenver Sandy was too busy or out of the office, customer service when Dianne was out of the office, tags and stickies for Mai, setting up new items, and whatever menial tasks Andy didn't feel like doing. Frequently, I even did some of Carol's work. I also understand that as an "assitant" it was my job to assist. However, the abrupt way things were thrust on me meant that I constantly had to put aside my usual tasks to run errands for anyone who was either too lazy or too far behind in their own work to do their job. In addition, I do *NOT* appreciate the way Andy and Lisa have reated me since I turned in my resignation. Andy was constantly trying to find rasons to shove me out of the office faster, and Lisa suddenly decided that I didn't really have the three days of paid vacation that she'd told me I had earned. Stangely enough, I used one of those days last month. I'm not trying to be rude or tell you how to run your business, and perhaps my point of view is one of an idealistic teenagerwho hasn't seen enough of the "real world, " but I do know that if you want to keep your good employees, you can't continue to bog them down with work or pay them so poorly or let them be bullied by your daughter and son-in-law. I'm sorry, but, to me at least, it's very clear why you have such high employee turn-over. If it's possible after this letter to stay on good terms with LABS, I would like that, but I couldn't just walk away with out expressing my opinion. I *do* appreciate the opportunity to work for you. I will be in to pick up my last check sometime next week.

Lacy

First of all, luckily, my new job already called my references. Secondly, I have friends here who feel the same way that I do about this place, so they'll always give me good references. Less than an hour til I leave http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/supergrin.gif http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/supergrin.gif http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/supergrin.gif http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/supergrin.gif

Sounds pretty good...maybe get a good referral letter from them before you leave so if this letter upsets them they can't badmouth you to whoever calls for a reference.
