Ok, this has bothered me before, and came up again last night so I'm posting it..
I can't stand it when I'm eating, and people get up to leave the restaurant, and upon leaving they have to give a slow stare at my food on the way down the aisle, like I just might be eating something better than they did! It's annoying! http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/superfrown.gif
I've seen entire families go by my table (and others) and do it, and THIS MUST STOP!
It also bothers me when people can't keep their faces within the vicinity of their own tables, theirs always someone staring at me or my table and do it for a long time. Makes me nervous when I'm eating!
Heck, even when they don't mean to sometimes, they angle their heads in such a way that you can just see their face very brightly out of the corner of your eye during the entire dinner and you get paranoid! It's always one face in every like 10 dinners! Help! http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

Sorry about staring at ya, Alien. I just don't see extra terrestrials eating human food (aside from reese's pieces) all that often. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif

i hate when people's kids stand up in their booths and look over at me.
i try to hint to the parents that i don't want there good looking and drooling near me.
i gave a little girl some food at cedar point and it made her parents turn around http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

bilgepump: Aliens like a good filet mignon every now and then too! STOP STARING AT ME!
moonsee: As for the kids: I don't mind them much, unless they spend the entire hour at MY table instead of their own. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif Some parents don't even attempt saying "hey, come over here, that's not your table". Sheesh! One day I should just order a beer and give it to the kid, and tell him/her "hey, go show mommy." That should keep my table quiet.. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
Hell even worse, give the kid a condom to show mommy! http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/supergrin.gif
"Look. Look. Mommy look." <gasp> Heh!
The parents would never ever let the kid out of their sight again, and I would have done a good deed for all parents of the world who lose their kids! http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
Wow I'm a loon, I get ugly when I haven't had my lunch and it's 4pm. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif Lunchtime!

One word will summarize all your pain. Curiosity. I hate to say it, but we're only human so hate us if you please. Your situation seems to be much common than I've experienced and you've just got to either ignore them or confront them. You can confront them by returning the cold stare or asking them about what is the matter. I do believe that, even though we don't mean to, we occasionally stare at what other people are eating because we're curious.
Correct me, if I'm wrong, but I think we've all stared at someones' food at one time or another. Some people just don't know when how long is too long and that seems to be what's happened to you.
Fast food and take-out are alternatives as well.

You take it too serious. My girl friend use to get paranoid about this in restaurants. I showed her instead how to have fun with it. When she thanks someone is looking at her now this is what she does.
1) Feel flattered
2) wink, make kissy face, and stare back
3) flip some food
4) Change places with me - on other side of booth/table
5) Casually flip the bird to this person pretending to scratch ear or something.

Kids are the worst. Last night I was waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting (you get the point) at the Philly airport and this little twit just started staring at me. She got a dirty look first and then the birdy (lmao) I think mom turned in time to see a dirty look WITH a birdy and that's when they left. I was a bit cranky and not in the mood for dealing with a snotnosed little one.

This was meant lighthearted. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif
However, I'm considering some of those options. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

why not just open your mouth really wide while chewing and look their way ... works for me.

That's what happens if I'm eating and someone asks what I'm eating or if it's good. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/lol.gif I just open up and let them decide (if they're going to ask me something while my mouth is full then this is what they need to see).
If I'm eating at a restaurant and there's a child staring at me-ONLY staring at me, I'm happy. I'm not happy when said child has done ANY of the following: gotten up under my table, stood up on the booth seat behind me and dropped food down my back, sneezed in my ear, screamed in my ear, etc. I cut children a lot of slack because well, they're children but maaaaan- Like I said, if they're just staring at me, more power to 'em.
*Now when my dog stares at me while I eat- Oh-hell-no. That bugs the crap out of me.*

My dogs don't just stare at me, they make drook lakes on either the floor or my knee (if I'm sitting on the floor).

I think I'm going to try that food idea... Next time someone is looking at my table constantly from across the room, they're gonna get a nice peak at my penne & shrimp!
