Our newest team members are making a tremendous impact on our team performance.

ukliam - Currently 10th on the team and over 100 work units after less than one week.

BRiT - 45 work units in less than a day. I can't wait to see what kind of production you're doing when it tops off. Very impressive!

nootch - 60 work units so far this week. Awesome!

Would be more, but lack of HTTP support in the client prevents it from running on another machine, since port 10101 is blocked by the firewall. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/frown.gif

I'm looking to setup a http-proxy bouncer on another system to get around that issue, but it'll be around a week before I can have it worked out.

I'm guesstimating I'll probably be doing around 52 work units a day.

They're looking to add better firewall support in the next version of the client.

Still 52 work units a day isn't too shabby. You're already up to 50. I think you might be able to pull more than 52.

how the hell are you running so fast?! that blows my mind considering that i can only do like 5 or 10 a day. bah

does it all just have to do with clockspeed? cause in college i think ill be running an oclocked gig athalon with a ridiculous amount of ram

and ill be online all day so that will help. i miss my dsl http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/frown.gif

I've decided I'll give FAH another go.
So you can expect my grand addition of one or two work units a day again from now on!

:bows to BRiT's greatness:

how are you managing to do so many so fast?
how many machines have you got it running on?
what are the specs?

Must find more machine to install it on :)

It doesn't just have to do with clock speed. The FPU of a CPU has a lot to do with it also, since the calculations are mostly floating-point operations.
As such, the Athlon and Duron processors have a distinct advantage over any of the Intel processors, including the P4. HardOCP did a benchmark, and found that a Duron 800 performed as fast as a P4 overclocked to 1.6GHz on F@H work units. However, it should also be noted that a P3 750 was also about that fast.
Also, the client/OS combination has a lot to do with it as well. The Linux client is built on an older version of FORTRAN, so it's fairly slow in comparison to its Windows counterpart. I believe, at this time, the Windows/Athlon combination is the fastest CPU/OS combination.

The amount of RAM in your system is less important than the CPU clock speed, unless you have a very low amount that would affect normal OS operation. If you're running 32MB, more would benefit you. If you're running >=128MB, you probably won't see an increase in your F@H performance by adding more.

Thanks for joining on again. This is exactly the kind of support we need. While it's great that myself, possum37, ukliam, BRiT, and the other high producers are involved, what's going to put us over the top is the participation of those people who can't really churn out a lot of work units, but do what they can. A project like this really illustrates the "strength in numbers" concept, and our committment to the project is what sets us apart from most 95% of the other teams. We are outproducing some teams that have double the members that we have.

If one were to look at many of the other teams, they consist mostly of high-tech sites dedicated to hardware tweaking and overclocking. Chances are that these groups have systems that are significantly faster than what most of us can put together, but we're still outproducing them because of the solidarity of our members.

You may think that your 2 work units a day don't mean much, but they are exactly the reason that we could crack the top 25 within a month. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

I've replied to this in the other thread, but here's a recap:

I am currently running the client on 3 machines.

My 3 year old system: Intel Celeron 300a@450Mhz
My 1 year old system: AMD Classic Athlon 700Mhz
My 1 month old system: AMD Thunderbird 1.33@1.533Ghz

Currently my 2 year old system: Intel Celeron 366@550Mhz is in need of a case, and thus isn't producing any units at all. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/frown.gif

The Celeron-450Mhz produces about 5 units a day (maybe 5.25). The AMD Athlon 700Mhz produces about 14.5 units a day. The AMD Thunderbird 1.533Ghz produces about 30.5 units a day.

However, the AMD figures are just estimates from my observations of RC5-64 client, with the 1.5Ghz producing roughly 2.2 times that of the 700Mhz.

I'm still waiting on the release of an AMD SMP motherboard with Palomino cpus. I'm grabbing one as soon as I can. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/supergrin.gif

The full specs on the main system are:

MSI K7T266 PRO RAID motherboard
AMD Thunderbird AXIA 1.33Ghz @ 1.533Ghz-1.85Volts
2x256M PC2100 DDR Crucial memory-2.7Volts
2x60Gig 7200RPM IBM drives in 1 RAID 0 STRIPE
3dfx V5-5500 AGP
SB Live Value
Netgear FA310TX NIC
Kenwood 52-TrueX drive
Floppy Drive (Only of the 4 systems to have one!)
InWin Q500A case
