mp3.com is really good in my opinion for electronic music

as alien said.....napster.com

Nowadays, Napster is much more difficult to use. I'm referring directly to the large increase of newbie users. I rarely use it anymore because 9 out of 10 times I will not be able to log on. Your next best choice is to try your luck at the major search engines and search for mp3. With some luck you'll stumble to one that is decent.

Are there any other sites? I can't connect to napster from work and all the others seem to have no-name bands on them.

Have you tried fiddling with gnutella or one of the clones? I'd hazard a guess that after Napster, people would be likely to use a gnu* program. Snag the same songs as you would if you were to use Napster, only without all the legal fuss...

Get started with Gnutella: http://music.cnet.com/music/0-1566076-7-2290852.html?st.mu.2365464.txt .2290852
Use Gnutella effectively: http://music.cnet.com/music/0-1566076-7-2365464.html?st.mu.2290852.txt .2365464

Since being banned from napster for having 5 metalica songs(yes I am still bitter) I have had good luck with www.scour.com (http://www.scour.com) and gnutella. They arnt what napster once was but they work. You can also try to find some ftp sites. That is how i started my collection (1000+ and still going strong) Hope that helps.

that gnutella thing didn't seem so wonderful when I tried it...that one I posted is pretty good, though. It's fast and has just about anything I need.

I've found that all of the above are utter crap when compared with the genius of Usenet. alt.binaries.sounds.mp3 is the easiest and fastest way to get decent mp3s. And most of the people who post files keep one thing in mind that all Napster users seem to disregard: sound quality.
I've never heard worse sounding mp3s than the ones I've downloaded off of Napster.
Some other advantages:
The source is always there. IOW, you don't have to wait until someone is online with the song you want. If you see it on the news server, it's there for you to grab until it cycles off.
Much faster than anything else, because you have a direct network connection to it though your ISP. You don't have to rely on someone elses connectivity.
No getting disconnected in the middle of a download because someone doesn't want to play nice and share.
The only thing that can make this a bad resource is if your ISP has a crappy newsfeed.
