Argh! I hit ESC again and lost my entire message just before posting it!
I finally got around to downloading and setting up the F@H client on my AMD 1.2GHz. I'd like to say that it's happily folding for our team, but my CPU (which normally idles at ~34°c) runs at 55+°c while folding...
The good news is that I was already planning on getting a new HSF (I have a Chrome Orb now) for quite some time now, and this gives me a good excuse http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif. So anyway, once I get a new cooler, I'll be up and running again. On that note, any suggestions for a really good cooler that will still fit on my Abit KT7A-RAID? I'm currently looking at getting a GlobalWin FOP32 from 2cooltek, though I'm not 100% sure it will fit on my mobo ... haven't had time to research it yet.

nootch> If you can afford to do it, spend the few extra bucks on an Alpha PAL-6035. It will give you much better cooling than the FOP32. It's more on par with the FOP-38, but without the noise of the Delta fan.
And it definitely fits. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

I will definitely spend the extra few bucks for the Alpha. Their PAL 6035 kit comes with a 23.5cfm Sunon fan. But, they also have a kit (for 3 bucks more) with the Delta 38cfm fan. Think the Sunon fan will be enough to sufficiently cool the 1.2GHz, or should I spend the $3 and put up with the sound of the delta?

I have the Sunon on all of my Alpha's (3 total), and it keeps my T-bird 1GHz@1100 at 41C at full load 24/7 inside a 23C case. And it's WAY quieter than the Delta.
Personally, I could never deal with the noise of the Delta. If you think you can handle it, it will certainly help you drop a few more degrees.
However, if you're not going to overclock, it's a moot point, since either fan will be more than adequate.

Okay, I just placed the order for the Sunon kit, and I'll hopefully have it by the end of the week. Thanks for the advice Dan.

I just got the HSF kit about 30 mins ago and I'm up and running now...
Full load = 46-48°c

Sounds slightly high, although not terribly so. What thermal compound are you using?

It seemed a bit high to me too, but I figured I might add an 80mm fan to the back of the case later on as well (I think I might have one laying around at my parents' place). As for the thermal compound, I'm just using the silicone compound that came with the fan kit from 2CoolTek.

Yeah, that should be fine then. It might just be a matter of reducing the case temp a little, which will cool the CPU further.
My case temp, for comparison, is a fairly constant 23C, according to Motherboard Monitor.
Still, you shouldn't have problems until you hit the 50C range. Many people have remarked that, once the Athlon gets over 50C, it starts acting freaky, even though that's still well within safe operating spec.

I keep mine under 50c. It does like to run at 48 when at a full load though. I have seen it hit 50 once and I let it rest for a while to cool off. It wasnt doing anything freaky, but I am still a bit nervous when it comes to my computer. And how would one go about cooling off the case, This is what I am wondering.
Oh yeah and where on mobo monitor does it say the temp of the case, I just see the cpu temp???

Half a day later, still Folding, I seem to be hovering between 43-46°c now (with a case temp of 20°c). The only thing I can think of is that the evening air (my computer sits approx. 6 feet from an open sliding door) is helping out.
Prox: There are multiple temperature sensors on your motherboard, you can find the list on Motherboard Monitor's website (http://mbm.livewiredev.com/) . If I remember correctly, you have an Abit KT7A, which I believe uses the same settings as my KT7A-RAID... so the settings are:
Case Sensor - VIA686B-2
CPU Sensor - VIA686B-3

Fans and less-restricted airflow.
My case currently has 4 80mm fans. 2 front intake, 2 rear exhaust. On top of that, I have all round internal cables, so the airflow isn't restricted. With improved airflow, internal case temps can be dropped significantly.
