Folding@Home Stats

[Diesel]

When I said that I hoped we cracked the top 250 by the end of the week, I never thought we'd do it by the end of the day!

We jumped all the way to #239! Way to go everybody!
What's more, we're poised to overtake our first big name, as we're only 6 wu's behind Team AnandTech!

The more people jump on board, the more we can move up. Hopefully, we can successfully acheive our next objective by getting into the top 100 teams by the last day of April.
It only took us 4 days to reach almost 250 work units, and the team at #100 only has 1464 work units completed. I know we can do this!

I had been posting the fields with the earlier stats, but since they didn't line up correctly, and they were already posted numerous times, I stopped including them.

The columns are as follows:
Overall Rank
USER/GROUP
UNITS
CPU DAYS
CPU HOURS/UNIT

For example with my stats:
4450 Diesel Dan (Alien Soup) 169 15 2
4450 is my overall rank
Diesel Dan (Alien Soup) is my User/Group name
169 is the number of work units I've completed
15 is how many CPU days I've put in (total CPU hours/24)
2 is the average number of hours per work unit

The last one is somewhat confusing, since they simply round it off to the nearest whole number. But, if a work unit only takes me 1 hour 5 minutes, it records it as 2.

a) You've completed at least one work unit
b) The next update (every 6 hours) occurs

Once you've done a work unit, and the next stat update finishes, you should start to see your names on the list.

I'm never going to be very high with my dial-up.
But Download Accelerator (which I downloaded last night) has been a godsend...it's sped up the frames I'm going through by a large amount...I think I'm gonna get 2 1/2 work units done by the end of the day, a record.

PIT&gt; You're definitely imagining the impact Download Accelerator is having on your F@H performance.

The way the client works is that it downloads the entire work unit, and then your PC processes it. When it's finished, it uploads it back to the server. In between, there is no connectivity needed to the Internet.

IOW, once you've downloaded the entire work unit and processing starts, your modem is completely out of the picture until the processing of the entire work unit is finished.

The entire load is on the CPU. Network connectivity is only important when uploading a completely work unit and downloading a new one.

Looking at the team stats -- we're #38 in terms of total # of users on a team (15 as of this posting) and #16 in "# Act", the # of users who are actually using the client regularly. That's not bad considering how new we are to this thing...

Even better, we're #15 in the Weekly Total category. That means that we're outproducing teams with quadruple our numbers.

Not bad at all, but we're never going to get as high as we want unless we get some more people on board.

This is weird. Now the two pages are giving contrasting stats.
http://www.thecompguy.net/foldingstats/310.stm shows us currently at #107 with 1138 WUs completed.
http://foldingathome.stanford.edu/teamall.html shows us at #115 with 1205 WUs completed, but when doing a user search for "Alien Soup", it only shows us with 1138, not counting the misconfigured users.

Well, both good news and bad news.

The good news is that we've cracked the top 100 teams on the unofficial stats page.
The bad news is that we're still only #110 on the official stats page, but the bright side is that we passed team Microsoft!!!

Passed isn't even a good team to describe what happened. We flew right by them!

On a personal note, I should be adding my new dual P3-750 system to the fold (no pun intended) sometime later this week, possibly Wednesday or Thursday), and I plan on overclocking the crap out of it as soon as I can. I checked the unofficial stats page, and noticed that we're producing more work units per week than all but about 15 teams. Of those, all but one is already in front of us, so we should be surpassing about 60 teams eventually. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

The bad news is that there is one team that is outproducing us, but only slightly. They'll likely pass us in the coming days, but this stresses the importance of trying to get more people to join the team. They outnumber us by only 2 people, and are managing to outproduce us.

16 people isn't a bad turnout, but Alien Soup has over 750 members. If only 5% of our membership would participate in the Folding@Home program, not only would we be contributing a hefty amount of WUs, but we'd also climb the ranks at an amazing speed. And we really don't need that many people to reach that mark.

DD &gt; Why are some teams producing negative numbers? Any idea why or how that's happening? Are they cheating somehow, and F@H caught wind of it? That looked odd to see some negative numbers on the stats page...

Just a glitch somewhere in the stats system. You'll notice that some teams had their stats jump up by huge numbers for that one time period.

Also, on the official page, you'll see that some of the CPU Hours and Avg. CPU time have some ridiculous numbers. Not sure how they intend to fix it, but I don't think it had anything to do with cheating.

Well, it's safe to say that we should pass 3000 WUs by tonight.

To make up for the loss of manpower (approx. 5 users) contribuiting to the project, I've made some "conscriptions" in the form of 5 P3 733 workstations at work. I figure there should be some kind of sacrifice for making me work on Easter. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif

Also, my dual P3 box is suffering from what is known as "DOA motherboard syndrome". The board needs to get sent back, so in the meantime, I'm running a 700MHz Celeron system in it's stead.

Hopefully, once I get a replacement board, that thing will start cranking out some serious WUs.

In the past week, we rank #13 for WUs completed.

In the past 7 days, we have advanced 15 places.

At our current pace, we should advance to #45 in 14 days, and #35 in 30 days. If we can get a few more people on board, I think Top 25 in 30 days is a realistic goal.
