Argh! I'm a student and also work "part-time" (Really I work by contract, but it seems like I'm always working) as a computer programmer for a small company for a few years now. My co-worker paged me this morning, with "911" at the end, during a time that I'd mentioned to him last night that I'd be at class. Now, "911" = "Emergency" ... "Emergency" = "leave whatever you are doing and respond immediately" ... I walk out of class and call him only to get: "I hope you weren't at class. One of the clients needs help with the software. Can you call him in a couple hours and help him out? If not, that's okay, I told him to e-mail you too." http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/reddevil.gif

Edit: the "> : (" smiley (minus the spaces of course) doesn't work, I just get >http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/frown.gif...

Doesn't that just P@#! you off???
My job requires me to be on the road all day and I don't have a cell phone so I beg my husband not to page me unless its an emergency. It never fails at least once a week I get a 911 from him. So after driving 5 friggin miles out of my way to find a payphone that actually works, I call him thinking my child has been struck by a car or something and when he answers the phone I get a casual "hey whatcha doin?" ARGGGG I could strangle him.
I would just ignore his pages but with my luck the first time I ignored it there Would be an emergency and I would feel guilty for not answering. Sigh....

Ick, I know people like that. Friends used to page me 911 as well just to say hello. I ask them why do they page me 911 if all they have to say is hello, and the most common responce was "because, if I don't, you don't answer right away." (Right away usually meant within 5 minutes of the page) I'm like that's cause I'm probably busy and I'll call you when I can. If it's not an emergency, which means my room isn't on fire, my car isn't stolen, or none of my friends are having some serious crisis that needs my imediate attention, then it can just wait. I'll answer the page when I am not too busy. Waiting five minutes after a page doesn't mean I won't ever answer it. Now I don't have a pager, but I don't need one for my current job anyhow so good ridence.
