i don't know about you people, but i find myself doing this a lot:

if i'm standing next to someone, i'll glance into their ear canal http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/supergrin.gif i just can't help it! of course, they don't *know* i'm doing it ...

seems most people don't clean their ears out on a regular basis and all you can see is tons of the yellow chunky stuff.

i, for one, keep *my* ears really clean ...

Cleanliness is next to godliness? Truly, I've yet to see ears filled with filthy wax. The mere idea makes me quite sickies http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/frown.gif I think it is up to parents/guardians to install a sense of cleanliness within their children and one of the most basic features of being clean surely includes cleaning one's ears gently with an earbud or cotton wool?
I am reliably told the wax is quite an important part of keeping one's ears healthy, but obviously excess, dustfilled wax should be removed or it may build up and cause blockage of the eardrum.

I'm a stickler about keeping my ears nice and clean too, Spidey. When I was a junior in high school, however, I went on a month long exchange trip to Russia...you can imagine that other things (i.e. not freezing to death, staying alive, etc.) became slightly prioritized over cleaning my ears. One day on a field trip, this one guy who had brought his camcorder on the trip decided to try to film a close up of everyone's disgusting looking ears -- I was so adept at avoiding him, that i even amazed myself! But, apparently, as I found out in watching the video months after we returned, he caught me while I fell asleep on a bus one day, and proceeded to zoom in as far as he could, taking a 10 minute-long close-up of my ear. As I found this out watching this film in an audience of many, months later, I was mortified.
