Iraq Votes On A Draft Constitution: Do You Think Iraq Will Become A Stable Democracy?

Hell, I think they might be more stable then us. If there is one thing I have determined through friends who are Iraqi and reading about thier countrymen, it is that they are tough ass bastards. You don't live through one of the most brutal regimes ever and come out a panzy. The Kurds especially. There is a unit of Kurdish soldiers, whos name I cannot remember that is particualrly feared by the insurgency. A friend of mine who is over there right now says that one of the easiest ways to flush out insurgents in a small town is to tell the people that these Kurds are bieng called in. Usually within 24 hour the people are the town are dragging the insurgents out into the street because they dont wanna get caught in the middle if these Kurds come. Wow, that went off topic.

Well my point is, it is my experience that the Iraqi people have the strength of will needed to make that country great. So much so that when this nasty insurgency is crushed (And it WILL be) That Iraq will become a new industrial and trade giant in the world. I see it becomimg a shining example of what a country should be.

I most certainly hope so.

I think it will, but like most things it will take time.

I agree mostly with Night's post. I also agree that the Iraqi people are as tough as nails. They are also devout in their way of thinking, religion and upholding their culture. I think it will take a very, very long time for any stabilization to occur.

I think they will become a stable democracy of some type over time. How much democracy will they grant the citizens when the country settles down in the future is always a question, but people have to remember that it took years before Germany was restored as a government with self-control.

The majority of the population wants self-rule and are willing to fight for it. They had larger percentage of the population willing to vote with the threat of death, and there was even a boycott and they still had more then the US has gotten since who knows when. United States and other nations will probably be in the country for a long while but we will gradually lower our armed forces over time while Iraqis will start taking over more and more security issues within their country.

People say bring home the troops now, are being silly. US is still in Korea, defending South Korea against the small possibility of North Korea invades. The war is over decades ago and we are still there. Bringing the troops home now, will only help make the fledging government fail, which is probably what some of these people wish would happen.

Opinions about was it right or wrong about starting the war is not the issue. Since we entered Iraq and defeated the previous regime, we are directly responsible to continue our work in Iraq in restoring order no matter what. We can not leave the country until Iraq is ready for us to leave.

So with our assistance and assistance of many nations, Iraq will stand tall a nation once again. Will they be a good or great nation, time will tell.

Eventually, yes there will be some form of stable democracy.

Bringing the troops home now, will only help make the fledging government fail, which is probably what some of these people wish would happen. Eh? I can agree with the first part, but I think the only people who WISH the new government to fail are those that supported Saddam in the first place. It's a bit of a stretch to say that those who were against the war think that a stable democracy in Iraq is a bad thing.

It's hard to say now, but it probably will eventually but it will probably be awhile before that happens.

Yea, this might be wrong to say but I think we be better off to nuke em. They are evil people and they don't care for their life or the life of others. In the end it might save us some worthless effort. But also their is always a chance they can reform. Only time will tell.

So first you say there's a chance they'll be able to form a stable democracy, even if it's a while away, then you say they're all evil and we should nuke em all and let God sort em out?

True true. But it will greatly limit their numbers.
