View Full Version : What is your favorite board game?
It's coming to that time of year where a lot of people like to stay in on a raw weekend afternoon and take out the good old board games. Which one do you prefer?

Trivial Pursuit and Scruples! Only problem I have no one to play with!
I really enjoy Trivial Pursuit. I forgot all about having the game - have to bring it out later. It's more fun to play with a foursome, though. I love Yatzee! Scrabble is right on the heels of Yatzee, though.

Family Feud or Jeopardy is fun also!
Never played those. There are very few games that I can overwhelm MrD at - I can't think right now of the name of it (we've played it twice - obliterated him twice and now he won't play again!), but it challenges right-brain thinkers and left-brain thinkers. Any idea what the name is?

haven't played a board game in aggesss
nothing beats monopoly though...when you beat everyone by buying everything mwuahahahaha!
Funny - I never like Monopoly. Very boring. Always felt odd about that because so many people love the game.

the one and only game is trivial pursuit. in university we got the one from the residence desk and it was the original version. it was during exam time. we started a game at 10pm and it went until sunrise at like 7am lol. that stupid last square where your opponent gets to choose your question...always arts and entertainment. who cares about who best supporting actor in 1948???? good times lol.
i have a board game called "careers". i doubt anyone has heard of that one, but it's fun. or "super deluxe aggravation" is a good one too.
I'm a scrabble player all the way. Yahtzee depends too much on luck. Monopoly is too mean. I do love trivial pursuit...and pictionary, and I just played a fun game at thanksgiving called Cranium. But, when it comes right down to it, nothing beats a friendly game of scrabble.

I'm a scrabble fanatic. I like monopoly but I always end up beating people so mercilessly that they quit within half an hour of starting the game.

Settlers of Catan. I LOVE this game, and I highly recommend it!
From Toysrus.com & Amazon.com
Editorial Review
In this award-winning board game for three or four players, Catan is an imaginary unexplored island, and players are explorers and settlers. The playing surface is made of hexagonal tiles that, depending on their placement, create a different environment each time the game is played. Settlers must use their resources to develop their island home, building roads and houses to create new towns. But watch out! There's a robber on the island, and that renegade can show up at any time to steal your valuable resources. The game includes a rules booklet, a game almanac (with examples and advanced rules), cardboard hexagonal tiles, a plastic game sheet, small wooden markers (for settlements, cities, and roads), playing cards, and wooden dice. Settlers of Catan takes only 15 minutes to learn, and the game can be played in a simple version for beginners or in a more complex version for experienced players. --Marcie Bovetz
From BoardGameGeek.com
Summary
In Settlers of Catan players try to be the dominant force on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities, and roads. On each turn dice are rolled to determine the current production on the island. Players collect raw materials to build up their civilizations to gain enough victory points to win the game. This game is a Spiel des Jahres (German game of the year) winner, primarily because of its amazing ability to appeal to non-gamers and gamers alike.

Yarr! Pirateer be the game for me!
It came out in '94, and few know about it, but some lucky buccaneers like myself have managed to get copies.
See?!! The things we find out when a question is asked! I never heard of those games before - great Christmas gift ideas!!:applaus:

Chess
Surprised no one mentioned Chess as a favorite board game.
Would love to learn Chinese Chess, pretty bad at that game last time I played in the mid 80's.
I never learned to play chess. Chinese checker and regular checkers just don't hold any appeal for me.

Another good one for the kids...that silly motorized game where you had to fit all the odd shapes into holes in the board and at the end of say a minute or so, the board would pop up and scatter the pieces everywhere. Don't remember the name of it, but my sister and I used to spend HOURS entertained by it.
Or Husker Du. That was a cool game too.

A female friend of mine was such an awesome cook(NOT) that when she had guests to dinner the moment the meal was served we all began to play "Guess What It Is". One time she prepared a meal everything from the appetizers to the dessert with Bisquik as the main ingredient. I must say however it was one of her more delectable meals.
