I'm looking into upgrading my inkjet printer. I currently have an Epson Stylus Color 740, which has been a great printer. I've printed photos taken with a 2.2 megapixel digital camera and they came out pretty nicely for a printer that costs under $100 and isn't a dedicated photo printer.
But now I'm using a 3.34 megapixel digital camera and want nicer prints than what the 740 can provide.
From Epson's product line, I've singled out the following 2 printers:
Stylus Color 880 - 2880x720 dpi, 4 color, $150 list
Stylus Photo 750 - 1440x720 dpi, 6 color, $180 list
My question is, which would be better for printing of digital photos? The higher resolution of the 880, or the extra colors of the 750?

Which have you used?
FWIW, the 740 I currently have does 1440x720 with 4 colors (CMYK). I was pretty happy with the results considering that it's not a dedicated photo printer.

Why? I'm looking for an explanation as well as a recommendation.
I'd like to know why I should be looking at one over the other.

can't you just trust me? http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
i think by 1440.. the dots are fine enough for your eyes.. but to make it more bright looking you'll need more colors than 4..

I don't have an Epson, but I have an HP 722C that prints digital and scanned photos beautifully.
I personally would think the higher resolution would be better. Less pixalized. Too bad that one doesn't have 6 colors! http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

I've seen output from a 722C. Didn't compare with the higher resolution of the Epson printers when they were printed on photo paper at high resoultion.
Dana's dad has a 722C and I tested it out on there. Pretty disappointing. And the 722C cost much more than my Epson did. That's one of the reasons I no longer use HP products.

I do trust you, but I always think it's better to learn why something is better than to just believe someone who says it is...
