Birth Control to Teens

After reading the following article:

Do you think teenagers should be given birth control (the pill, condoms, or any form of birth control) for any reason OTHER than what a legitimate medical need dictates?

I don't believe that kids under 12 should be given birth control. Putting all of those hormones into a CHILD is nearly criminal. The test trials done with pills have most likely not been tested on kids that young; there needs to be a cut-off. As for other forms of birth control, I think it's ok to give them out.

i agree with mosey on the pill stuff. i think that condoms and the like would be alright. on the other hand, i can't even fathom 10 and 12 year olds having sex...high school would be the earliest i thought about sex i think, maybe it flitted through my mind in gr. 7 or 8 as well, but not as any sort of driving factor. it...disturbs me to think of kids like that having sex. couldn't tell you why, just a gut feeling, they are too young is all i know.

i noly started thinking about it at 12 because of my sis...i knew alot bout sex way beforee i was 12 but i didn't dwell on any of it :) coz i didnt feel the need now im 14 well :)

I'm saying yes because the question pertains to teenagers, not 10 year olds. I know people who lost their virginity as young as 12. To tell you the truth, I'm more concerned about the use of psychactive drugs to treat children with ADD and ADHD than hormone treatment for irregular cycles.

Again with the treating the symptoms without looking for a cure. Young sex results in young birth, if you are really young when you give birth it can be really dangerous. Stop saying, "thier having sex might as well keep them safe" we should be saying "Why the hell are they having sex!" Adress the cause not the effect! If kids had it ingrained into thier heads at an early age that sex was for marriage then, stds, abortions, and divorce rates would fall. Don't give them contriceptives, whack them over the head with a newspaper and set them strait! Its NOT healthy for kids that young to be taking those kinds of meds.

I think the poll is misworded, because the article is about 10 year-olds but the poll is asking about teens. Teens need to be informed about birth control, educated about their bodies and such. Many 10 year-olds don't yet even have a cycle, and if they did, it is likely irregular (which is normal for a couple of yrs) and their little bodies should not be ingesting hormones.

While I agree with 10 year olds NOT being to young to have sex, you have to think about one thing. They are not talking about the ones who are on it for medical reasons that have nothing to do with pregnancy. I started on the pill shortly after my 8th birthday, my sister soon after her ninth bday. We were both diagnosed with severe uterine cysts and this was the most feasable way of getting them to shrink down to avoid ruptering or surgeries. We had severe pain from them and the BC's helped to suside the pain just enough to be able to crawl out of bed. The school where we were at was furious with my mother saying that this would be a bad idea and that she was sending the wrong message out. Our defense was, "what the hell is it of anyone elses business how we treat our illnesses?" I was NOT going to be cut open at age 8 to take out what could possibly be fixed by BC's. I was already told I would not have kids due to the prolonged use of BC's and other problems brought on by abuse. I had horrible pregs and they all came out early, but if I had gone for the sugery then the scar tissue may have taken my chances to ever have kids at all. If given the chance I would do it all the same way. When they do statistical studies it combines as a whole which does not show the public the real numbers. Such as this # for the sexually active that uses BC's between such and such age and this # for medical use of BC's for such and such age. Do we ever get the real story??

i think they should beable to get birth control there are other medical problems that are treated with birthcontrol. i dont think 10 and 11 year olds having sex is a good thing but if they are going to do it anyway they should be givin methods to prevent pregnancy and transmitting diseases
yes our tax dollars pay for it in most cases however if they didnt have the pill or condoms our tax dollars would be paying for that child and her child until they were both 18

no but they should be educated about it
there is no good answer to the birthcontrol issue, there is no good answer about drugs either (i didnt say alcohol cuz alcohol is a drug)
educate and educate and hope they make the right choices

Spunkey, 10 and 11 year olds having sex? Come on! They are babies. I am having a hard time thinking that children that age have sex. I just can't get my head around that one. If I ever had children (perish the thought) and I learned that there was sexual activity at 10, the kid would never see the light of day again because I would be at their school immediately after class. They would never be allowed out of my sight! I mean NEVER! Too bad if they thought it was mistreatment. They should be grateful I allowed them to live!

In our school we have to take Health....the only thing we do in there is learn about STD's. Truthfully they(school teachers) encourage safe sex----think about it you got kids out there getting drunk and high driving out in the middle of the road killing inocent people! There is really nuthing we can do about that but if kids are out there having sex there is some small precaution for spread of std's. Plus here you can go to the health department and get a bag full of condoms; No matter your age. Just thought that might help you guys out

I couldn't understand it but I later learned that her step father was raping the child and her mother was aware of it. It makes me sick to my stomach just typing this so I won't elaborate further. her mother knew what the step father was doing and just got the child birth control insted of taking her out of the situation that is just sick. it appals me that there are such sick people in this world

I think in a case like that that the Mother and the Step Father should have been put into jail and someone throw away the key.
