The Patriot Act, are you for it or against it, and why.

Just figured I'd open this one up for conversation before I head home from work to sleep. (12 hour shifts suck, though I'm a network admin so I can be on here just about the whole time anyway.)

Geez, Brain - I think I'm too tired to go into this one, and I think I'll hang in the fringe. The Patriot Act was developed under all good intentions. Unfortunately it has suffered being rushed through at an inopportune time - it should have been in place long before it need to be. We became lax - defenses were down, security at an all time low - we ALMOST deserved to be hit. I hold my head down while saying that in deferrence to all the blessed and innocent lives lost - God Bless them all.

I'm awake now and at work so i'll throw 2c up here.

The Patriot Act was a decision by a hurt public to stop itself from getting hurt, call it an immune system..call it whatever. But we did it wrong, by passing the Patriot Act we have brought another organization into play that has oversight over all Federal Agencies from Immigration to the Department of Transportation. This organization also has the ability to deny people the're basic rights such as an attorney, or actually being charged with a crime before being held with it.

While there are some things in the Patriot Act that will help us secure ourselves in our home, I feel that it was two large of a step to take while the nation was hurt and was based on a quick fix other then the lasting effects of it.
