He wrote the Dirk Pitt novels, a character loosely based on his own life. He's like a ocean-based James Bond.
The movie Sahara is based on his book by the same title. It's the second movie they've made from his books.

Neil Gaimen, American Gods was an excellent read.
If anyone wants to read something that will make you laugh read "Lamb: The chronicles accordinating to Biff Christ's childhood pal"
It answers such questions such as the orgin of ju-do, and wether elephants can ever learn to do yoga.
Yes I've read "She's come undone" and it was a really good book, I never did get around to reading and of the others though.
I will definitley look into "American Gods" - you really need to read the other book Wally Lamb wrote - I THINK the title was "This Much I Know is True". I'm more than likely wrong, but if you look under the author and seach for titles you'll find it - GREAT read!!!!!! Love to know what you think...

I probelly have it sitting around the house. My Wife works at a book store, so we have entirely to much as it is.
The basic premise of American Gods is that when everyone immigrated to America they brought they're native deities with them.

Neil Gaimen, and Terry Pratchet, they wrote Good Omens together, a book i feel everyone should read. Also Jim Butcher, he writes the Dresdin files series. Oh and R.A. Salvitore, great fantasy author.

Good Omens got me into Neil Gaiman because I was originally a Terry Pratchett fan and after Good Omens I read Neverwhere and loved that. Since I work in a bookstore I get to be around them all time. Other than them I also like John Grisham and Lillian Jackson Braun, and I'm really fond of biographies.

Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe, don't you know, although I must admit that the VC Andrews series did capture my interest for many years. Currently am struggling through Harry Potter. I have hopes of being hired by the US Government to be a special reader at Gitmo. I hear the prisoners become very emotional when the military read to them. LOL
Which is would you say is your favorite Shakespeare play, Sister Kate? (I don't want to hijack the thread away from authors...I'm just curious)

I believe my future favorite author will be Night! Your pen go dry, Night? I haven't seen anymore of your stories we at BA have been following. Might it be writer's block? Keep writing, Night, you do have the potential to be on the best sellers list someday!

Sailor Kenshin

King is always underrated by the sneering literati, but he tackles hard subjects that they don't dare touch, and his work has more substance than their endless navel-gazing.
Love a King fan! You can't just "read" his books - you have to READ his books - there's more there than you'd think. The guy's amazing....

Tried reading a Koontz novel "Life Expectancy" and quit by chapter 5 or so, I think. The concept of the book was good, but can't stand books written in 1st person.
Otherwise I have read and enjoyed alot of authors:
Maeve Binchy
Joy Fielding
Patricia Cornwell
Michael Connelly
Lisa Gardner
Tess Gerritsen
Robin Cook
Anne Rule
Ken Follett
A few I have on hand but haven't read yet are:
Tami Hoag
PJ Parrish
Edward Rutherfurd
Karin Slaughter
Sara Paretsky
Kathy Reichs
John Connelly
Frank Delaney
Elizabeth George
Looks like I better stop buying books.....by the look of the second list. :glasses10

I just got done reading "Reefer Madness" by Eric Schlooser and really liked him so went and got "Fast Food Nation" and have yet to read it. We have state-wide testing in the next few weeks and I plan on getting a lot of reading done. I also plan on picking up "Unconcious Mind."

I never really liked reading books, mainly a magazine/internet article kind of person. If I were to read a book it would be the Halo novels (Based on the video game). So my favorite author would have to be the authors who wrote those books.

I feel like Stephen King is overrated. His books are good for face value entertainment, but rarely contain any sort of metaphorical undertones to enhance the reader's experience. As far as modern authors are concerned, I like Chuck Palahniuk regardless of his fan base's arrogant disposition. I'm still into the classics - George Orwell, Mark Twain, William Golding.
