View Full Version : Winter Sports
As most people who know me are assured, I HATE WINTER. I like to refer to it as Purgatory. There is no Hell. Just Purgatory.
MrD on the other hand likes it. He's an avid skier and has tried for years to get me to like it too. No way. Tried it - hated it.
Let's set the record straight - vote your preference!

While I am not a winter sport person, I love winter. Essentially, I love all the seasons. Living in the New York affords me the opportunity to experience each one, and I love it! By the end of winter, I am looking forward to Spring, which is my least favorite season because I am impatient, and it is basically just a mix of winter and Summer: end winter, start summer, the wait annoys me. :D Buy the end of summer, I am board, and I look forward to the coming of winter.
Autumn, the fall if you please, is my FAVORITE season. I am nostalgic, and to me, autumn is the season where we look back upon the year we just experienced, bask in it's beauty, as is represented by the GORGEOUS colors of fall, and reflect upon our lives. At least I do. I enjoy nothing more than walking my property, in the cool, crisp autumn wind. It is just reinvigorating to me. But I digress. Enough of my ramblings. I like all the seasons, and to me, they are all just long enough to enjoy them. Well, maybe spring could end a little sooner, and summer could start a wee bit earlier, but overall, I think Mother Nature did a good job! :p
It is one of the few things I like about living in NY! ;)
Gee, Nova - now I feel bad about using the word "hate". I'll change it to "abhor"!
I live in NW CT in a relatively rural setting. IT'S COLD HERE in the winter!! I do feel fortunate however that I get to experience the changes of the seasons - especially autumn. It's beautiful.
I'm a summer person, completely. Give me sun and water and I'm a happy camper. A friend who lives down the street feels the same way - we go into hibernation in the winter, crabbing and moaning the whole time. Every Labor Day we go into mourning - it's quite sad for those around us... but at least we have each other!!
My husband is a "ski freak". I'd rather open an artery. The very THOUGHT of whooshing down a hill, freezing your tail off and sweating intermittently (in WOOL, no less - PHEWWWWW!) is too much to bear. Have you ever SEEN a snot mustache? :( Then there's the pleasure of sitting in the "Lodge" on a bench. The floor is wet, the fireplace isn't hot enough (if it's even lit) and the bars don't open until early evening. Depending on when you go, you're surrounded by kids (who have the money to ski...) in all their new togs, speaking "yuppie" to each other. Ever SMELL a hormonal 17-year old boy in wet wool?? Hell, I'd rather spend the day with my ex-mother-in law!! (wait a minute - let me rethink that one....@ )
I guess I fall somewhere in the middle of this whole thing.
Winter--I can't live with it at times but I also can't live without it.
What's winter without snow?!?

HATE winter. Especially driving in it. I'm always cold. Can't imagine WANTING to ski.
I dunno why, but part of me enjoys driving in the winter. It's especially fun to drive in empty parking lots when there's snow on the ground. (That's how I learned how to drive--so I was able to practice avoiding spin outs and fishtailing)
Part of me also used to like going out and sledding in the winter, or playing football with my friends in the snow

Come on folks, CHRISTMAS and 70 Degrees simply do not go together! ;)
Christmas is OVER!! It's a whole new year - let's dispense with winter already!! @ We had a couple weeks of it to remind us how beautiful, sparkling and refreshing winter is --- BLAH, BLAH, BLAH----- when the hell is spring getting here, anyway?? In case no one has noticed, I'm getting CRANKY here, guys!! AAAARRRRGHHHHHHH:cussing:

Enjoy the weekend snow. :smiley_aa
howw soon is it till the groundhog gives us the forcast for the rest of winter?
Hmmmm - good question, Kimosabbe - I THINK Groundhog's Day is Feb. 2nd, but if anyone else is sure I will stand corrected. Let's just hope for the good old January thaw before that! :)
Yeah, it's Feb 2...I'm just too lazy right now to count the exact number of days till then :)
