I hate insurance companies. I'm to the point where I honestly think they deny about half the valid claims that come in, just to see if they can weasel out of paying them. I went in for a check up last month, and they denied it, claming it's not covered by our policy. Bull ****ing ****. And the doctor's office still hasn't heard back regarding Jason's check up on the same day. However. Since I did what every good girl should and called the insurance company then the doctor's office, I can sit on the bill (in other words, not pay it) until I hear back from the insurance company "in about two weeks." ****tards.

Together, Dana and I have had nothing but trouble with BCBS. By far, the worst health insurance company I've ever dealt with.
If at all possible, check into Aetna. Since I got them, it's been very hassle-free. No denied claims, even for my endoscopy.

BCBS is, unfortunately, what J gets through work. I've looked into getting insurance on my own (when I still lived in GA, after I was laid off), and it's obscenely expensive. Not that it isn't obscenely expensive, anyway. And since I don't work, it's not like we can go through my job :|
Strange ... I never had bad things with BCBS ... I had BCBS PPO insurance about 2 years - never had problems ...

Dana somehow got stuck with a $2500 deductible through her BCBS insurance through work. I've never seen a policy with a deductible that high, and when she had her gall bladder surgery, she had to pony about $2k to pay off the bills.
It's practically unheard of.

Are you guys using their HMO?
I have BCBS (PPO not HMO), this is my second year with them, and it's been the best health insurance I've ever had. They pay claims quickly and never hassle me.

Nope, definitely not the HMO plan here. I'm pretty sure Dana's got PPO.

PPO here, too.

I think it's different based on where you work. Companies have a lot of say regarding deductibles, etc., because they typically pay half of the premium (where I work now, they pay 80% of the premium).
One of the few reasons to work for a big company.

Thats crazy. It's just a d**n check up. It seems baffling that insurance companies would deny a check-up and rather wait to pay until the person gets a more expensive problem. (Example- Medicare doesn't pay for shower chairs to prevent falls ($45) but will pay for hip surgery ($8,000)
I had the PPO without any problem at my old job. Then I had Oxford, and they paid for lots of tests (ie. MRI's). Now I have United HC and still no probs so far.
The one hospital tried to bill for a balance of what Oxford didn't pay once, but J told them they were supposed to take whatever the insurance gave them, and they dropped it.
