Wow, here it is -- 100 posts. In what? Less than a week? I'm clearly obsessed. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif I had a wonderful and surprising and honoring and extraordinary and astounding out-of-this world day today, so I'll give you guys the skinny for my hundreth...here it goes...

Disclaimer: My life is politics -- yet I purposley never discuss them on the board, because this is my escape from it. Yes, it's tempting to respond to all of the posts in the politics forum, but I refusehttp://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif. (It takes a lot of self-restraint, but I do!). Obviously from my profile, and picture with Georgie boy, it's pretty obvious that I'm pretty big into GOP politics. Doesn't sit well with a lot of people, but for the sake of this happy occasion (my 100th post -- not my day!) please be kind, gentle, and just humor mehttp://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

My day:

Without even so much as asking, or submitting any kind of resume, I discovered that I....

-Was appointed to a full-time national political office by the party national chairman.

-Am only one of 11 people in the nation to hold the position.

-Will have my gas, cell phone bill (up to $150/month) paid for me, and will make $3000 in the next 10 weeks up until election day.

-Am a national field director for one of the 5 most hotly contested races in the country.

-Will be flown to New Orleans and California.

-Now have franking priviledges (ie. if I get a speeding ticket, I hand it to the chairman whereupon he "takes care of it".

-Have 3 offices across the state, and can use whichever I want whenever I want.

And after being informed of all of that, I...

-Had someone actually volunteer -- no, demand! -- that they go out and buy me coffee
from Dunkin' Donuts. I, not particularly liking power, stuffed 3 dollars in their pocket, but found them folded neatly in my binder upon leaving.

-Was asked by the State Party Chairman to run for Congress in 2004 at the age of 25 (probably because of my last name, in a largely Italian district), in hopes of becoming the youngest Congressman (or woman!) ever elected...(my response was, "thank you but, hell no!")

-Had dinner with a billionaire at a great restaurant for a private party of 9 (including prominent national and state officials...and little ol' me). The billionaire is a Mormon Christian and was saying that when he tithes (gives 10% of his gross income to his church), the amount given is 8 figures.

-Had the billionaire and his wife decide that they love me (like me even more that the big wigs I was sitting with!) and want me to come spend time with them, and gave me, and only me, their home phone number to confirm that.

-Was offered several jobs after campaign season.

-Was told that if the campaign I'm primarily dealing with here in CT isn't what I "want it to be", they will set me up in an apartment in NYC, so I will do the same work, but for Lazio.

And thus...

-I am WAY out of my league!

-I am terrified, but can't publically admit it.

-Guys, I'm only 20...haven't even graduated yet!

-Feel like I'm way in over my head!

-Am honored, confused and ultra-flattered, but unsure as to how I go about resolving all of them in coherent thoughts!

-Have never ever ever been so truly terrified in my entire life.

-But happy to know that good people who deal honestly and who act by their conscience in politics ARE in fact recognized for their efforts once in a while....

wow.

http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/blush.gif

Has anyone ever seen the movie "Working Girl"? I feel like the secretary at the end, when she still thinks she's a secretary, and goes to get herself coffee, but is then stopped by *her* secretary. I was about to go outside to bring some bulky materials up to the office, but was promptly stopped by the Chairman who laughingly said "Kristin, WHAT are you doing? haha - THAT's why we have volunteers." Argh, and then people my age started treating me like some authority figure, and were being way too serious and polite with me....I couldn't stand it. After about 10 minutes of that treatment, I turned my back, inhaled a helium balloon, and answered a serious question that one of them asked intimidatedly with a chipmunk voice. I'm so bad at being serious -- really, as you can tell from my past 99 posts, I don't think I can go more than 2 sentences without cracking a joke. I know what's going to happen...I'm going to screw everything up by saying something sarcastically (it's just my nature, I can't help it), and end up being horribly misquoted in the New York Times and all other papers...I'm so petrified.

But happy that I've finally reached 100 posts!!!

Gotta make this fast or I'll be late for work. Here you go:

1. Congrats on the job and your 100th post (yes u are obsessed most likely a little insane but what the hell you fit in perfectly)http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

2. Relax you have a good head on your shoulder, yes sounds like a lot of reponsibility but as long as you use common sense you will be fine. I think you will do well, judging from the quality of your posts.

3. You are Italian. WoooHoooo!

4. Do not joke around too much. I know it's hard but if you truly love what you are doing then you can't be cracking a joke every 5 minutes especially this early in the game. To earn the respect of others is not an easy task and to accomplish it you have to start out right. The need to joke is usually a defense mechanism for when you get nervous so relax and enjoy the experience. Save the humor for the times you'll need it.

5. You are not going to screw up.

6. Good Luck!

Gotta go now.

KNS> Sounds like you've got it made! And at 20, nonetheless...hmmm - are you dating anyone? http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif

Look at it this way. You're 20. *20* for Chrissakes. A lot of people might live their whole lives without acheiving what you've just done. If something happens and it falls to pieces, hey, you've had a *wonderful* experience, and have memories to treasure the rest of your life. But chances are, knowing of you from what I've gleaned from your posts, that things *aren't* gonna fall to pieces, that you're gonna excell at your job, and overall have a wonderful time doing so.

Don't be hard on yourself. And don't change who you are!!! So what if you joke every 5 minutes...if you didn't, you probably wouldn't have gotten to where you're at now. Heck, if your joking around was such a bad thing, the Mormon dinner folks wouldn't have

-Had the billionaire and his wife decide that they love me (like me even more that the big wigs I was sitting with!) and want me to come spend time with them, and gave me, and only me, their home phone number to confirm that.

Just be you, KNS...and all will be well. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Thank you all so much for your kind words of encouragement and support! It's funny...I meddle in politics because I love them. That is, I love politics -- but despise the politics OF politics. I never do things to "network" or "rub elbows" like far too many people I know in the business. Rather I say what I mean, and mean what I say, regardless of who I piss off. It's so refreshing to me to know that honesty and integrity is still a desired value within the party, and politics in general. Thanks especially, Spiderg and Poss, for implying that in your responses.

...But getting back to the real issue at hand...so you wanna know what you're all going to be up to upon my inaugeration as the first female president of the United States, eh? Well first of all, JHowse, I'd maybe consider your suggestion to appoint the top 25 to my personal cabinet, but being that I'M not even in the top 25, I think it would be somewhat...hypocritical and would make me feel pretty inferior by my sub-par soup status. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif But, as a pure result of your soccer ball avatar, I'm thinking you're going to wind up as my secretary of agriculture. Why? you may ask...well, all soccer players can spot bad grass conditions a mile away. You're going to have to make sure all of the farms stay in tip-top shape! Now, doesn't that sound like 8 years of fun fun fun?! Thought so! http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif As for you, Boone, your bullet-through-the-head avatar just screams out (in pain) Secretary of Defense. Enough said! Except for the fact that I didn't think my being Italian would come as any big surprise....you know... being a "Sinatra" and all. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif Mthrl, as our nation's new Secretary of Education, you're going to somehow brainwash teachers into not brainwashing their students. A difficult job, but someone has to do it. AAA, of course I'm going to need a personal chef, but suggestions on cuisine are always welcome from the new FDA (Food and Drug Administration) Director, Spidergoolash. Make sure that all of that hummus, tabolule, baba ganoush and other fine veggie products all pass your personal standards! Taz, you're a tough one...I never thought I'd appoint anyone who was a self-avowed liberal http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif But what the hell, I can make an exception -- you are now director of transportation. Anyone who can actually manuever herself successfully through Long Island traffic is good to go in my book! (I'm origionally from Nassau county, by the way -- Lynbrook to be precise). Now Al, Al, Al....you are the designated Secretary of Energy. Sounds as if you and your golden briefs exude enough voltage on their own to power the nation! Diesel Dan, you will be my Secretary of State, and I'll tell you why. Because of the simple reason that whenever you're caught in a tough position in your foreign affairs dealings, you can candidly and calmly just respond "On a long enough timeline, everyone's survival rate drops to zero", whereas others might panic and be driven crazy not having all the right answers at all the right times. Being that you possess the one answer to just about every question one can ask, you're my man for the job. Now as for my good friend Alien, who I met at the tender age of 15, and who is now hearing me talk about my upcoming presidency, you -- I will be SURE to appoint immediately as the director of the CIA. You and your conspiracy theories...I might as well endow you with the ability to either confirm or disprove them, shouldn't I? You dig up those roswell files, and all of the other things contained within the federal government's "alien soup" of its own, and let us know the hard facts ASAP. Juicy details included (I always wanted to know about that metalic/liquidy tin foil stuff that was apparently witnessed at the site...who knows, maybe that's what Al's been wearinghttp://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif). And last, but certainly not least, hey Poss..how does the VP seat sound to you? Just be sure not to fund raise at any Buddist temples...that whole "seperation of church and state" thing is there for a reason.

Well, thats the tentative roster...any comments, questions, complaints? Bring em OOONNN!
