My spring break started today (Saturday). Many of my classmates are going back home to hang out or do some travelling. Guess what I'm doing during spring break? Writing papers and getting my wisdom tooth taken out!!!! :terrified

I chickened out....I did not pluck out my wisdom teeth. I cancelled the appointment. I realized that the pain in my mouth would distract me from writing my papers well.
Yeah, don't do it if you need to write papers. And try to fit in some fun!

I had my wisdom teeth pulled a few years ago and I had little to no pain at all. All four were pulled, and I believe two were "impacted" (supposedly the more painful, cause they're growing in sideways or something).
I was completely knocked out when the doctor pulled mine, and I just woke up to a numb mouth. I was prescribed Vicodin and told to take one about an hour after I got home, as the stuff they gave me during surgery would wear off and it would start to hurt. So I took the pill, felt no pain that night at all. The next day, I figured I'd wait until it started to hurt before taking the next pill, but it never hurt enough to need one. It was just a very slight soreness, and only when I touched the spot(s) with my tongue. The only problem I had with the surgery was that I had little "holes" in my gums for a few weeks, and food would occasionally get stuck in them (but they gave me a little water injector to help with that too). Since then, at least two people I know complained about having to have their wisdom teeth pulled and I told them my story... after they got theirs done, they both told me that they had the exact same experience: little to no pain.
It's sort of nice that there's still this common acceptance that it's extremely painful, cause people treat you sooooo nice when you tell them you just had your wisdom teeth pulled, but I don't know anyone personally that has actually had any pain from the procedure.
Oh, and for comparison, the very little amount of pain that I had in the first two days was MUCH less than how much it hurt when I had my braces tightened back in high school.

You're right about the pain when braces are tightened. I had braces for almost 8 years. I just had them taken out 3 years ago. Braces definitely hurt more than having wisdom teeth plucked out. But I've already had two of my wisdom teeth taken out a few years ago. Both times, the side of my mouth was swelling and I had to keep putting an ice pack. I needed stitches because my wisdom teeth were impacted too. My mouth felt fine two days before I took the stitches out. So after having two surgeries to take out my wisdom teeth, I didn't feel like going through it again when I had papers due after vacation. :)

Weird, my doctor used stitches that just dissolved; never had to be taken out. Good luck though, hopefully it won't hurt as bad for you this time around!
My spring break starts Wednesday at 6pm. Get about a week and a half, can't wait!
I had severe pain in my mouth. But I had to stop taking the painkiller b.c. I was throwing up. I guess it depends on the person. I know I certainly wasn't up to doing anything.

I had all four of mine out at once, and I think three of them were impacted. My mom and step-dad-at-the-time's insurance wouldn't cover knocking me out, so I decided to go with local. I didn't have any problems at all. I took one precautionary painkiller, but it made me feel worse than the (very minimal) pain from having them removed. That night, I was eating solid food (with my front teeth, though), and I went out with a friend to see Saving Private Ryan. :: shrug :: I have heard some horror stories first-hand, though. Good luck when you do go through with it!
