What are your views on capital punishment? Personally, I am against it. If somebody does something bad enough to get convicted for the death penelty, I think they should have to spend the rest of their life in prison. That would be a lot worse then being executed, in my opinion. Execution is the easy way out. And who knows, maybe the person could change. I know the chance is small, but you never know, it is a possibility.
Do you oppose or favor capital punishment, and why?

I say, "Kill 'em," unless the victim's family is against it. It's not a form of deterence because the people who commit the types of crimes that warrant the death penalty aren't typically thinking rationally when they act.
The bottom line is it cuts down on overcrowding and it's a very public-supported means of retribution. What the heck? An eye for an eye.

I am all for it, as long as they have strong evidence that it was them. That is the problem you see, knowing where to put the line.

I could copy and paste my 6 page Documented Research Paper, but I'll just sum it up.
The system isn't good enough in most states, there is too great of a chance of an innocent person being killed. And even if one is, that is doing exactly what they're punishing. Additionally in the trial system, there are too many disgusting defense attorneys who sleep through cases, and get this, forget to tell the judge that the case the defendant is up against has already been admitted by another person.
Now, if the system were absolutely perfect, I'm still not sure I'd be for it. I actually prefer that they be tortured, but that's unfortunately against American laws and ideals. However, I see death as cruel, so who knows. But assuming the system were perfect, and torture were not an option, I would reserve death for only the MOST brutal of criminals, and that term is being used too loosely right now.

Hm...
Well, without thinking too much about it, if you're sentenced to 'Life without Parole', then a Death penalty would just save wasting money on the prisoner.

Really? Do you know how long they're put on death row on average? Do you know how much more confident they have to be that the person is guilty?

Meh, you assume that life is the most important thing a person possesses. I disagree. Life in prison without parole sounds a hell of a lot worse than the death penalty. At least your sentence is shorter. :p

Well, I was only speaking about cost in that spot you quoted me on.
You don't think life is that important, cool. But you have to realize that not every person in jail has the same point of view. Also, there are a few states which do have the death penalty, but have never executed anyone, even though they have a death row. Even in the states that it is there, the waiting time is so long, that it isn't all that much shorter.
Out of curisioity though, what is the most important thing a person possesses? (somewhat similar to the question I asked you in the other thread)

I don't know, but everyone possesses life, so it can't be that special. It's more of a requirement than anything. Whatever makes you stand apart from the masses is the most important thing you possess, in my opinion.

But without life, the person doesn't have that special thing about them. Granted, being imprisioned may take it away, but not necessairly.

I'll put this plain and simple. I do not agree with capital punishment. Two wrongs DON'T make a right. Who are we to play god. Why can't we just lock them up for their lives? They have to lead a miserable life as punishment, and they can't harm anyone else. I think it should be up to god, or whatever force it is that balances the universe, ot decide if someone should die or not. Not up to someone like... Bush.

If only that were true. It's not that bad a life considering some of the things they do.
