today i'm sitting down *relaxing* w/my daughter. she's swinging a piece of licorice around in her hand and inadvertently swung it into my eyeball http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/indiff.gif damn, that hurt.

also, did you ever notice how some food is sharp? take potato chips, for instance; if you don't chew them properly they scrape your throat going down. feels like you swallowed a damn razor blade. food can be dangerous ... things to ponder ...

http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/lol.gif I've got the best one, so far. One time when my brother and I were pretty young. I was 10 and he was 13, I think, he and I got into a fight while we were helping my mother unload groceries. At the time we got those pepperoni logs that you slice up in the food processor. Well, he took one of those things and hit me on the head with it. I saw stars. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/frown.gif

I carved the turkey at our staff Christmas dinner last year - just a small occasion with us 10 full-timers...I didn't slice myself open, but I *did* have a rough time removing the leg from the body. I finally did so, but whacked my hand against the counter, which REALLY hurt. The resulting moise made my boss (who was making the gravy) jump and splatter hot gravy on himself. Another co-worker, the third and final guy in our group (see, this is just to show that you shouldn't leave guys unattended in the kitchen), was laughing at us and not paying attention to what dish he was picking up, so he picked up a very hot glass serving dish. From his language I'd assume that hurt him.

Then we got laughed at, coming back from the kitchen with all that wonderful food, looking like refugees from the battle of Gettysburg...

You know, only here at Soup do you find people who have food-injury anecdotes...we really are quite an interesting bunch of people. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

yes, and the stunned expression on my husband's face when he asked me what happened to my eye http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

"that would only happen to you, wouldn't it" he said.

I'm one of those chronic tongue burners. You'd think that after 20 years, I would have learned my lesson by now -- don't drink any liquid that still has massive plumes of steam coming from it. But no, be it coffee, soup, even seemingly harmless hot chocolate, it's inevitable. And then I can't taste anything for the next two days. I've also burned my eye with altoid dust. How I managed that one, I still wonder....

Hit my brother in the privates with a package of frozen string beans once. He was in a lot of pain. Does that count? I usually try to avoid confrontations with my food items. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

Not quite getting injured by food, but when I was a young'n I was peeling a carrot and took a piece of my thumb with it. As I recall, I did it on two separate occasions. (Kids never learn.)

I've also eaten so many sour-patch kids that they burned my tongue.

my sister was opening a can of jalapeņos and it sqirted her in the eye, under the contacts and everything. she was, as i understood, in a lot of pain (yelling, jumping up and down, etc) and my mother was trying to figure out what was wrong, and my sister was yelling what was wrong, but my mother couldn't understand it... oh, it was a mess. funny from a third-party point of view, though. http://www.aliensoup.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
